Download and install Opera
Download and install the desktop browser ¶
To install the Opera desktop browser, just go to our download page and follow the simple instructions for the latest, official version.
32-bit or 64-bit?
Regular 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available for Linux/FreeBSD.
If you want to see what we're currently working on, have a look at Opera Next.
More than one installation ¶
If you are helping us by testing builds listed on the Opera Desktop Team Blog, you may need to change the installation options. As some of our experimental builds will upgrade your stable Opera by default, it's a good idea to change the options to install it alongside your stable version instead.
For a second, separate installation, follow these steps:
- Download the tar.xz package to a suitable place.
- Extract the contents to the same directory.
- Start a terminal and switch into the extracted directory.
- To start the installation, type ./install --user --unattended --name xxx, where xxx = your file name.
