Private mode in Opera Browser allows you to surf the web without tracking your activity. All browsing data, such as cookies and history, is removed after closing private mode, making it impossible to reopen closed tabs or review browsing history.
To open private mode, tap the three-dot menu and tap Private mode, or long-press the Tab icon and select the New Private Tab.
The pink-colored Fast Action Button button helps to indicate that you are browsing privately. Private mode has neither a start page nor site bubbles since no browsing data is retained.
You can switch between normal and private browsing without losing tabs. That way, you can have two active browsing modes at one time. Your content in Flow and pages from your History can be opened in private mode.
Closing Opera Browser or closing private mode will clear all browsing data in private mode.
Saving content and searching in private mode
Content intentionally saved in private mode remains in the Opera Browser. You can send private tabs to Flow and they will be accessible in both browsing modes. If you mark a page with a star icon, the page will be added to the start page in normal browsing mode and not private mode.
Please note that search suggestions that appear in the search and address bar are sourced from your regular browsing history. You will not see suggestions from searches made in private mode because no browsing data is stored there.
Leaving private mode
There are two ways to exit private browsing:
Leave private mode – private mode will remain on in the background when you resume regular browsing. This is the best option if you want to return to open tabs in private mode later.
Exit and close private tabs – this option will clear all private tabs.
