Tabs and Webpages

Address bar

The address bar contains the page’s web address. Tapping the address bar will allow you to type in a new search. You can also use your voice to search. Click the Voice Search button on the right side of the address bar.

When on a webpage, tap the three-dot icon in the address bar for navigation, page options, and access to features like Aria (Opera’s browser AI) and Flow.

Access points to Tabs

There are three entry points to your Tabs page: the Tabs button on your start page, in the three-dot menu, and in the tabs menu of Fast Action Button.

To open your Tabs page from the three-dot menu, tap the three-dot icon and then Tabs.

When browsing the web, swipe open the Fast Action Button to find your tabs button on the right side of the menu.

Closing tabs

Tabs on your Tabs page can be closed by swiping them to the left or right side of the screen. 

You can find closed tabs in your History.

Close all tabs

To close all tabs, tap the three-dot icon on the Tabs page, and then tap Close all tabs.

You can also open the Fast Action Button on the Tabs page and select to close all tabs.

Opening tabs from other connected devices

After connecting devices via Flow, tabs from your connected devices are available in Tabs.

Tap a tab from your connected device to open it in Opera. Private tabs from your Opera Browser for desktop are not displayed.

Opening a tab’s context menu

Tapping and holding a hyperlink, for example, a news article headline will reveal the tab context menu where you can perform additional actions.

Open a new tab will open a new page in the foreground. Your current page will remain as an open tab. Simply pressing a link while browsing will navigate you away from the current page.

Open in new background tab will open the link in a new tab but you will stay on your current page.

Open in private tab will open the link in private browsing mode.

Long-press the Tab icon to see tab options. There, you can open a new tab, a new private tab, or close the current tab. You will also see three tabs you visited recently, so you can easily come back to one of them.

Copy link address will copy the page’s web address to your device’s clipboard so you can paste it elsewhere, such as an SMS or another messenger.

Share link will open a menu of device-enabled options for sharing the web address.

Open, save, and search images

Long tapping on an image will open the tab context menu with three additional options: Open Image, Save Image, or Search Google for This Image.

Open Image will open the image in your current tab. 

Save Image will open your device’s download manager with the option to save the image to your phone.

Search Google for This Image will use the selected image as a search query in Google. Websites that use this image will be presented in your results. Google may also present images visually similar to the one you have selected.

Request a desktop version of a website

To request the desktop version of a website, while browsing, tap the three-dot icon and tap the Desktop site slider. Now, all websites in this tab will be viewed in their desktop version.

Find text on a page

To search for text on a webpage, while in page view, tap the three-dot icon and tap Find in page. Type your text. Results for your text will be highlighted on the page, and you can cycle through instances with the up and down arrows. 

Tap the x button to close the text search.
