Opera’s start page primarily consists of Speed Dials, which are thumbnail shortcuts that you create for your favorite web pages. It also offers an AI-powered news feed, a bookmarks bar and Speed Dial suggestions. These elements, along with a wallpaper and theme of your choice, can be customized to your liking.
Customizing the Opera browser with the Easy Setup panel
The easiest way to customize the start page in Opera is to open the Easy Setup panel. The panel is found in the top-right corner of the browser UI and includes the most popular options.
Themes and wallpapers
In the Easy setup menu, you can change the look of your browser with themes and wallpapers. Opera has a collection of exclusive wallpapers from commissioned artists to choose from. You can find more wallpapers in the add-ons store or upload your own from your computer.
You can also choose between a dark or light theme.
Bookmarks, Speed Dial, and sidebar options
In Easy Setup, you can choose to use bigger tiles, as well as show or hide the bookmarks bar, Speed Dial suggestions, and the news feed on the start page. You can also pin or unpin the sidebar to the browser window.
By default, Opera will open the start page when launched. There are other browser startup options to choose from in settings, like retaining tabs from a previous session or starting on a specific webpage. You can learn about startup preferences on our help page.

Customizing advanced options in Settings
- Go to Settings.
- Click Advanced in the left sidebar, and click Browser.
- Under Start page, you can enable or disable start page options.
Here you have a few more options than in the Easy setup menu. You can choose to hide the search bar on your start page, as well as adjust the Speed Dial animations and number of columns. You can also choose to receive suggested Speed Dials (based on your browsing activity) and promoted Speed Dials (websites promoted by Opera).
