Start-up and home page
The first option lets you select which pages Opera should open when you launch the browser. You can have Opera launch with the pages you had open when you last closed the browser, or go directly to a previously saved session or your home page. If you want to choose every time you launch Opera, enable the start-up dialog.
Set a new home page by filling in the address of your most frequently used Web page, or go to the page you want, open the General preferences and click "Use current".
Window handling
By default, when you open new pages, they will open within one Opera application window. Multiple open pages are visible as tabs on the page bar. If you want each page to open in a separate application window, uncheck the "Open pages in tabs" option.
Each tab can have its own "Close" button, or you can opt to have a classical Multiple Document Interface with a Window menu and close/minimize/maximize buttons on the same bar as the main menu.
Pop-ups
Opera will try to distinguish pop-ups that you have requested (typically log-in pages or similar) from pop-ups launched automatically from Web sites (typically advertising).
You can also choose to block all pop-ups, to open all pop-ups, and to open all pop-ups but only display them behind your other open pages.
Language
Opera will read your language settings from the System preferences on first start-up. Your preferred language will be used for the browser as well as for Web content. Please note that not Opera is not available in all languages, and that most Web sites will not be able to serve content based on your language setting.
Click "Details" to specify different languages for the browser and Web content, and to be able to set a prioritized list of languages for content. If you have downloaded an Opera language file separately, go to the "Details" dialog to apply it.
Note: Once edited in Opera's Preferences, your language settings for Opera will no longer be affected changes to the System preferences.
