Keyboard shortcuts

You can browse a lot faster using the keyboard, and this page gives you an overview of the available keyboard shortcuts. Some operations have multiple shortcuts; use those you find most convenient.

Notice that the keyboard shortcuts have changed considerably since Opera 9.2. The old shortcuts are still available if you choose "Opera 9.2 Compatible" in Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts. A compromise approach that enables some of the more popular single-key shortcuts is to check the box marked "Enable single-key shortcuts".

Note:

  • ⌘ refers to the Apple key, also known as Command or Cmd.
  • Alt and Option are the same key.

Tip: The combination of the Shift key and arrow keys is the fastest way of moving around a webpage when wanting to locate links and webform elements.

Single-key shortcuts

Opera 9.5 disables the following single-key shortcuts, which were enabled by default in Opera 9.2 and previous. To re-enable these shortcuts, check the box marked "Enable single-key shortcuts" in Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts.

Changing shortcuts

If you wish to change the default keyboard setup:

  1. Go to Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts.
  2. Select the configuration you wish to change, and click "Edit".
  3. Find the operation you wish to edit by typing in the "Quick find" field or clicking the list.
  4. Click "Edit" and enter a sequence of keys to associate with the event.
