General preferences

Start-up and home page

The first option lets you select which tabs Opera should open when you launch the browser. You can have Opera launch with the tabs you had open when you last closed the browser, or go directly to a previously saved session or your home page. If you want to choose every time you launch Opera, enable the start-up dialog.

Set a new home page by filling in the address of your most frequently used webpage, or go to the page you want, open the General preferences and click "Use current".

Pop-ups

Opera will try to distinguish pop-ups that you have requested (typically log-in pages or similar) from pop-ups launched automatically from websites (typically advertising).

You can also choose to block all pop-ups, to open all pop-ups, and to open all pop-ups but only display them behind your other open tabs. Remember that you can also use site preferences for pop-up settings.

Language

Opera will read your language settings from the System Preferences on first start-up and automatically apply an appropriate language file and set the preferred content language based on those settings. Please note that Opera is not available in all languages, and that most websites will not be able to serve content based on your language setting.

If you have downloaded an Opera language file separately, go to the "Details" dialog to apply it. Once you have edited these preferences in Opera, your language settings will no longer be affected by changes to the System Preferences.
